Hugh Jackman and his new girlfriend, Sutton Foster, have reportedly been left 'blindsided' by a shock request from his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. The 57-year-old actor and Foster, 51, publicly confirmed their romance in January 2025, a year after Jackman announced his split from Furness. Now, Furness wants to meet her ex-husband's new partner.
Deborra-Lee Furness Seeks Closure
However, sources close to Furness insist she has no intention of causing trouble. 'This isn't about Deb being angry or wanting to read Sutton the riot act. It's about closure,' an insider told New Idea magazine. The source added that while Furness was initially reluctant to meet, she now believes it is necessary to move forward.
'For the longest time Deb swore off the idea of even being in the same room as Sutton,' the insider said. 'But at this point it feels like something she needs to check off her list, if only to put an end to the awkwardness... also so she can speak her truth.'
Painful Public Displays
The insider revealed that Jackman and Foster's very public romance has been difficult for Furness. 'Watching Hugh and Sutton parade around the city, openly flaunting their romance and mingling with all the same people they used to socialise with as a couple, is incredibly painful and humiliating,' they said. 'It might be easier to take if they weren't constantly all over each other.'
The couple's public appearances include attending this year's Met Gala in New York City together, where they were seen tenderly holding hands. This was seen as a brutal final blow to Furness, who had attended multiple Met Galas with Jackman in the past, including their last joint appearance in 2023. Jackman attended the 2024 event solo and skipped 2025 entirely amid their high-profile split.
Jackman and Foster Open to Meeting
Despite the surprise, Jackman and Foster are reportedly open to the meeting to clear the air. The source said, 'Hugh and Sutton were surprised by Deborra's request – but were open to the idea so they could clear the air of any perceived tension.'
Jackman finalised his divorce from Furness last June after 27 years of marriage. His romance with Foster began in late 2024, following their starring roles in Broadway's 2021 revival of The Music Man. The couple are now rumoured to be close to marriage, with reports claiming Jackman rejected the idea of a prenup. The alleged wedding planning comes less than a year after the bitter divorce was finalised.
Jackman and Furness share two adult children: son Oscar, 25, and daughter Ava, 20.
