Comedian Josh Widdicombe has revealed he initially had second thoughts about auditioning to become a host of Strictly Come Dancing, describing the opportunity as a daunting prospect due to the show's high-profile nature.
New Hosts Announced
Widdicombe has been confirmed as one of three new presenters for the popular BBC competition, joining Emma Willis and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The trio will step into the roles previously held by long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who recently announced their departure from the programme.
Widdicombe's Hesitation
The comedian admitted that he considered turning down the chance to audition, calling it an “incredible experience” that he ultimately decided to pursue. “It was a big decision,” he said. “I thought long and hard about whether I was the right fit, but I’m so glad I went for it.”
Hosting Duties
Emma Willis and Josh Widdicombe are expected to serve as the main hosts of the show, while Johannes Radebe is rumoured to take on a “roving reporter” role, bringing backstage updates and interviews to viewers.
Both Radebe and Willis expressed their excitement and honour at joining the show, acknowledging the legacy of Daly and Winkleman and hoping to continue the programme's magic. “It’s a privilege to be part of such an iconic show,” Willis said. “We want to honour what Tess and Claudia built while bringing our own energy to it.”
The new lineup marks a new chapter for Strictly Come Dancing, which has been a staple of British television for over two decades. Fans will be eager to see how the new hosts settle into their roles when the series returns later this year.
