A new poll has revealed that a significant portion of Americans doubt the official account of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The DailyMail.com/TIPP Poll found that 67% of respondents either believe the shooting was part of a conspiracy or are unsure what truly happened on July 13.
More than a quarter of those surveyed said they think a second shooter was involved, contradicting the FBI's conclusion that Thomas Crooks acted alone. The 20-year-old nursing home aide fired an AR-15-style rifle from a rooftop at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, wounding the former president and killing one spectator.
The poll of nearly 1,500 adults highlights growing public distrust in official narratives, fueled by rapid spread of alternative theories on social media. Actress Amanda Seales suggested the attack was staged to boost Trump's campaign, while conspiracy theorist Alex Jones pushed claims of a 'deep state' plot.
Criticism has also focused on the Secret Service's failure to secure the rooftop from which Crooks fired. The agency has faced intense scrutiny over security lapses at the rally.
Despite the doubts, just under half of respondents said they were confident only one shooter was involved. The poll underscores the challenge authorities face in convincing the public of the official version of events.
