Sheffield Shooting Fundraiser Hits £18,000 for Son

A fundraising campaign for a young mother tragically shot dead during a Bank Holiday night out in Sheffield has raised nearly £18,000.

Victim Identified as Shanice Brookes

Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old mother-of-one, was gunned down near the One Four One bar in West Street, Sheffield, shortly before 2.45am on Bank Holiday Monday. Detectives have stated that she was an innocent bystander and later died in hospital.

Fundraiser for Funeral and Son's Future

Friends launched the fundraising appeal to cover funeral costs and to support her 10-year-old son. Organiser Tyler-Jay Reid said: "We are starting this page to raise money for Shanice’s funeral. She deserves the most beautiful send-off after being taken from us far too soon. She leaves behind her beloved 10-year-old son, who now faces life without his mother, something no child should ever have to endure. Any remaining funds will be set aside for him and his future."

Reid added: "Shanice had the biggest heart, the most infectious humour, and a beautiful soul that touched so many. She lit up every room she entered and was deeply loved by everyone lucky enough to know her."

Court Proceedings Underway

Two men are due in court in connection with her murder. Jemele Rhone, 30, from Sheffield, has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm, and possession of criminal property. Deiryen Dyce, 32, also from Sheffield, faces charges of assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, possession of drugs, and possession of criminal property. A 30-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder has been released and is no longer considered a suspect.

Tributes from Friends and Family

Work friend Lynsey Golland wrote: "You were part of our extended work family, and our team is devastated. We feel privileged to have spent time with you and worked alongside you. We shared great nights out and memories we will hold forever. I know how deeply loved you were and how much you meant to your son, family, and friends."

Shanice had been studying photography, videography, and graphic design at The Sheffield College since September 2023 and was due to graduate this month.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: "Shanice was a young woman in the prime of her life, simply enjoying a night out. We should all be able to go out and return home safely. This incident shows the devastation gun crimes cause. If you saw what happened or have information, please do not stay silent. Shanice’s family, including her young son, face the heartbreaking reality that they will never see her again. The reckless actions of others have taken her life, and any of us could have been the victim."

He added: "We are conducting a complex investigation to secure justice, but we need the public to come forward. Ensure no other family endures this devastation."

Family Statement

Shanice’s family released a statement: "She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend, and godmother, as well as an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her. To her cousins, she was more like a sister. She was due to graduate from university, reflecting her determination and bright future. She could light up every room with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul, and magical aura. She made people feel loved, safe, and valued simply by being herself. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew her."

Heartbreaking social media posts shortly before her death revealed her excitement about the future. Days before the shooting, she wrote on Instagram: "2026 has been so full of love and memories, truly grateful and can't wait for what the rest of the year brings."
