A woman wanted in connection with serious child sexual offences in Lithuania has been apprehended in Northern Ireland after officers discovered her hiding in a wardrobe. The 23-year-old suspect was located by the International Policing Unit during a raid on a rural property in Coalisland, County Tyrone.
Arrest and Extradition Proceedings
The woman was detained under a Lithuanian extradition warrant and is wanted to serve a prison sentence for serious sexual crimes committed against a child in the Mazeikiai region of Lithuania. She is scheduled to appear before Laganside Extradition Court on Thursday.
Sergeant Davey of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) International Policing Unit stated, “Despite this fugitive’s best efforts to hide and avoid the consequences of her actions, she was today apprehended. Today’s arrest delivers on our assurance of the relentless pursuit of perpetrators and supporting victims.”
International Cooperation
Superintendent Marty Reid, also from the International Policing Unit, emphasised the PSNI's commitment to tracking down fugitives and supporting European law enforcement partners. He noted that the force is increasingly collaborating with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol, and Europol to bring justice to victims both in Northern Ireland and abroad.
This arrest underscores the effectiveness of international police cooperation in ensuring that individuals accused of serious crimes cannot evade justice by crossing borders.
