Rock singer Caleb Shomo, frontman of the metalcore band Beartooth, has come out as a 'proudly gay man,' prompting a heartfelt response from his wife of 14 years, Fleur.
Shomo's Announcement
Shomo, 33, founded Beartooth in 2012, the same year he married Fleur. In an Instagram post, he addressed speculation about his personal life, stating: 'I am a proudly gay man.' He revealed he has been 'unpacking and reckoning' with this realization for some time, and that his earlier albums explored themes of self-hatred and depression rooted in his religious upbringing.
Shomo explained that he 'spent a decade burying feelings with alcohol' before deciding to focus on exploring his sexuality, hoping to eventually experience self-love.
Fleur's Response
Hours later, Fleur posted her own message, describing the past few months as 'disorientating and hurtful' but affirming her support for Caleb. 'I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb,' she wrote. However, she candidly admitted the difficulty: 'To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out.'
Fleur confirmed the end of their marriage, writing: 'Our nearly 14 years of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love.' She added, 'I already miss it & my husband more than anything.'
Beartooth is expected to release their sixth album, Pure Ecstasy, later this year.
