Iran has issued a firm denial regarding reports that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei sustained life-altering injuries during US-Israeli attacks on February 28, insisting he is in 'full health' and recovering from what it describes as a minor scratch behind the ear.
Claims of Serious Injury
Initial reports, citing four senior Iranian officials, claimed that Khamenei was gravely wounded in the strikes that killed his father. According to these sources, he suffered injuries to his kneecap and back, required plastic surgery on his face, multiple leg operations, and a prosthetic leg. One hand was said to be gradually regaining function.
Official Denial
The Iranian regime, through the Fars News agency, has categorically rejected these claims. Mazaher Hosseini, director general of protocol, dismissed the injury reports as 'enemy rumors' and stated that Khamenei would speak publicly 'when the time is right'. He emphasized that the supreme leader is in full health and only sustained a small scratch.
Khamenei reportedly narrowly escaped death during the February 28 strikes, with his wife killed instantly. He has since been visited by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and military head Ali Abdollahi, according to unconfirmed reports.
The conflicting accounts have fueled speculation about the true state of Khamenei's health and the stability of Iran's leadership amid ongoing tensions.
