The Metropolitan Police is gearing up for one of its largest policing operations of the year as Arsenal fans from across the globe converge on north London to celebrate the club's victory parade. The Gunners will be marking their first Premier League title in 22 years, with the possibility of also lifting the Champions League trophy if they triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in Saturday's final.
Massive Policing Operation
More than 500 officers will be deployed across Islington on Sunday, supported by specialist search teams and drone units. The force has been collaborating with emergency services for months to prepare for the event, which is expected to draw a massive turnout. Commander Stuart Bell, leading the Met's public order operation, stated: "The parade is an opportunity for Arsenal supporters to celebrate, and we want everyone attending to enjoy the day safely. There will be a police presence along the route throughout the event, supporting event organisers and stewarding operations."
Public Transport Disruptions
Significant delays are anticipated on public transport, with several Tube stations and major roads closed throughout the day. Highbury & Islington will not stop Victoria line services, while Holloway Road and Canonbury stations will be closed or exit-only. Finsbury Park is recommended as the nearest fully operational station with step-free access, though queues are expected. London Overground services will be extremely busy, and Drayton Park and Essex Road stations will be closed entirely. All roads along the parade route, including side roads, will be subject to temporary closures and parking suspensions.
Parade Route and Timings
The parade begins at 2pm on Sunday, starting on Holloway Road from Drayton Park, then heading east along Seven Sisters Road, Blackstock Road, Mount Grove Road, and Green Lanes. It continues south via Petherton Road, Beresford Road, Newington Green Road, and Essex Road, turning north at Angel underground station onto Upper Street, and finally passing Highbury & Islington Station back to Holloway Road. The Emirates Stadium and Drayton Park area will be closed to the public.
Police Warnings
The Met expects the vast majority of attendees to behave safely and responsibly but warns that anti-social behaviour, violence, or any criminality will not be tolerated.
