Health Secretary Wes Streeting is scheduled to meet Sir Keir Starmer on Wednesday morning amid growing pressure on the Prime Minister to resign, with more than 100 Labour MPs having signed a letter opposing a leadership contest.
Meeting to Address Party 'Turbulence'
According to reports in The Times, Streeting is expected to question Starmer on how he plans to navigate the current crisis and resolve the 'turbulence' gripping the Labour Party. The meeting follows a period of intense division over Starmer's leadership following disappointing local election results.
MPs Rally Behind Starmer
More than 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter declaring that now is 'no time for a leadership contest' and emphasising the need to rebuild public trust. The letter states: 'Last week we had a devastatingly tough set of election results. It shows we have a hard job ahead to win back trust from the electorate. That job needs to start today – with all of us working together to deliver the change the country needs. We must focus on that.'
The development comes as four ministers have quit their positions, and Labour MPs remain split over whether Starmer should step down. Despite the turmoil, a minister has stated that Starmer is doing 'great' following a make-or-break Cabinet meeting.
