Opener Kraigg Brathwaite led a determined West Indian fightback on day two of the third Test against Pakistan in Sharjah, guiding his side to 244 for six in response to Pakistan's first-innings total of 281 all out.
At 68 for four, the West Indies were in trouble, but Brathwaite remained unbeaten on 95, just five runs short of his fifth Test century. Captain Jason Holder was at the crease with him at stumps, with the tourists trailing by 37 runs.
Brathwaite found support from Roston Chase, who scored 50, and Shane Dowrich, who made 47. Both partnerships were worth 83 runs, with Brathwaite anchoring each one. Chase hit a six off Yasir Shah to bring up his maiden Test half-century but was caught off Mohammad Amir shortly after. Dowrich was bowled by Wahab Riaz just before the close.
Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking two for 44, and also claimed his first Test catch in his 20th match, dismissing Darren Bravo.
