Alex Albon collided with a groundhog during practice for the Canadian Grand Prix, resulting in a crash into the barriers and significant damage to his Williams car. The incident occurred at turn seven of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
Williams confirmed that the 30-year-old driver was unable to avoid the local groundhog as it crossed the track. The circuit is situated in Parc Jean-Drapeau on Montreal's Isle Notre Dame, where groundhogs have become a familiar sight during race weekends over the years.
Albon, known as a passionate animal lover whose pets have their own Instagram account, returned to the garage with more than half of the sole practice session remaining. The team now faces a major repair job ahead of sprint qualifying later on Friday.
