Tens of thousands of Aston Villa supporters filled the streets of Birmingham city centre and the Jewellery Quarter on Thursday to celebrate the club's Europa League triumph. The open-top bus parade, which included three buses, covered a 4.5-kilometre route and marked Villa's first major trophy since 1996.
Victory in Istanbul
The celebration followed Aston Villa's 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in Istanbul, securing the club's first European trophy in 44 years. Fans gathered on balconies, bus stop roofs, and the terraces of the Library of Birmingham to catch a glimpse of the team.
Emery and Mings Address Fans
In Centenary Square, manager Unai Emery expressed his pride in the supporters, while defender Tyrone Mings recounted the team's celebrations. "We've celebrated very hard. I'm sure you guys have too," Mings told the cheering crowd. "We are so grateful for all of you showing up today. I'm drunk. I'm sure some of you are drunk. I hope that continues long into the night."
Captain McGinn's Message
Captain John McGinn, a Scotland midfielder, thanked fans for their support over the years. "First of all, thank you for your support tonight. But thank you for the last seven or eight years – you have been through so much pain, so much disappointment. But these group of players have provided so much satisfaction over the last few years," he said. "We are going to enjoy tonight. But let's keep going next season – you never know what can happen."
Logistics and Safety Measures
Birmingham City Council implemented temporary parking suspensions and road closures in the city centre to ensure safety. Bus services were diverted for several hours, and tram services along Broad Street were suspended to allow fans to gather safely.
