An Australian man has tragically lost his life after stumbling and plunging through a compromised safety barrier while trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu alongside his wife. The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2:00 PM local time, according to reports from the ABC.

Matthew Cameron Paton, aged 53, was part of a tourist group when he fell an estimated 400 metres near the Intipunku entrance to the iconic trail. The area is known to be challenging for rescue teams to access due to its rugged terrain.
