With approximately 2,200 spectators in attendance, Enfield Town's 29-year-old goalkeeper, Joe Wright, was preparing to take a routine goal kick when he suddenly turned towards the Chelmsford fans positioned directly behind his net.
In widely circulated footage captured from the stands, Wright can be seen abruptly changing direction and appearing to throw a punch with his right hand in the direction of a supporter. Audible gasps from the crowd accompanied the shocking moment, which was not witnessed by the match officials, according to Enfield Town's official match report.
