Chappell Roan Responds to Jorginho's Criticism Over Security Incident

American singer Chappell Roan has responded after Brazilian footballer Jorginho accused her security of aggressive behaviour towards his wife and stepdaughter at a hotel in São Paulo. The former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder posted on Instagram claiming that his 11-year-old stepdaughter was left 'extremely shaken and cried a lot' after a security guard spoke to her and her mother in an 'extremely aggressive manner'.

Jorginho, who now plays for Flamengo, said his stepdaughter had spotted Roan at breakfast and smiled while walking past her table, but did not approach the singer. He accused Roan of not appreciating her fans, writing: 'Without your fans, you would be nothing.'

In a video posted to Instagram, Roan said she did not see the incident and that the security guard involved was not her personal security. She explained: 'I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. They did not come up to me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security to just assume someone doesn't have good intentions.'

Roan apologised to the mother and child, stating: 'If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.' She also rejected claims that she dislikes fans or children, calling such suggestions 'crazy'.

The incident has sparked online criticism, including from Rio de Janeiro's mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, who said on X that Roan was not welcome to perform at the city's Todo Mundo no Rio festival. Roan previously spoke out about fan boundaries in 2024, criticising 'entitled' and 'creepy' behaviour.
