Anthony Joshua Shares Emotional Dance with Mums of Friends Killed in Tragic Crash
Former two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has demonstrated his commitment to his word in a poignant display of support. Footage has emerged showing Joshua sharing an emotional dance with the mothers of his two close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele, who tragically lost their lives in a car crash in December 2025.
A Promise Kept Amid Heartbreak
Just days after his knockout victory over Jake Paul in December, Joshua was involved in a horrific car accident in Nigeria. The incident claimed the lives of his strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif Ayodele. In the aftermath of the heartbreaking crash, Joshua vowed to provide lifetime support to the families of his deceased friends.
This past weekend, the British boxing star attended a large gathering dedicated to mothers on Mother's Day, seemingly fulfilling that promise. The 36-year-old was filmed enjoying the emotional occasion, with one clip capturing him taking to the dance floor with the mums of his two friends. In a touching speech at the party, Joshua expressed his gratitude and remembrance.
Joshua's Heartfelt Words
During the event, Joshua spoke from the heart, saying: "To come under one roof and celebrate our mothers, celebrate our brothers, celebrate those that are not with us, and celebrate those that are with us. Knowing that all of our fates will one day come, we just stay strong until that day. We pray for our transition and just to be great in the afterlife."
He continued: "And why I talk about that is because my heart's for my bros right now, do you know what I mean? So, thank you again; why we've done this is obviously for my mum and our family, but also for Sina, Latz, Sina's mum, and Latz's mum. It's all interconnected and I'm not making too much sense—I'm just speaking from my heart, basically. So thank you, mums, for giving me Latz and Sina for so many years and for looking over me, you know? I appreciate it a lot. Thank you very much."
Recovery and Future Fight Plans
While Joshua is still recovering from the crash, he has returned to training and is expected to make a comeback to the ring later this summer. Potential opponents include Dillian Whyte, and if successful, a highly anticipated fight with Tyson Fury could follow.
According to boxing journalist Gareth A Davies, both Fury and Joshua have agreed to meet in the ring. Davies revealed on talkSPORT that the fight is "signed" in the background, with good authority indicating it will be broadcast live on Netflix, likely in late 2026 or early 2027.
Joshua's long-time promoter Eddie Hearn provided an update, stating: "Originally the plan with AJ was for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury in August. He's not going to fight Tyson Fury next; he's going to come back, I believe, in late summer. Physically he's not yet in a position to return so I'm planning and he's just resting and preparing. I'm looking at options to get him back in the ring in July but we will only know if that's a real possibility when he returns to camp which will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks. Every fight is dangerous coming off what he's been through. We are open to the Tyson Fury fight but more likely at the end of the year or early in 2027."
This emotional moment underscores Joshua's dedication beyond the ring, as he honours his friends' memories and supports their families during a difficult time.
