Kell Brook's Comeback Fight Postponed Amid Middle East Unrest

The highly anticipated comeback of former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook has been postponed once again, just weeks before the scheduled event. The British boxing legend was set to face Eisa Al Dah on April 11 in Dubai, in a tribute to the late Ricky Hatton, who passed away in September. However, organisers have been forced to delay the showcase due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Event Relocated to Manchester Due to Travel Restrictions

With tensions between America, Israel, and Iran showing little sign of easing, Agenda Dubai has confirmed that the boxing card will now be moved to Manchester. The event is likely to take place towards the back end of the summer. A press release from the promotion cited current travel restrictions in the United Arab Emirates as the primary reason for the postponement. This decision follows recent incidents, such as Emirates cancelling some flights after a drone strike caused a fire near Dubai's airport.

Martin P. Gravestock, founder of Agenda Dubai, stated in a release: “Dubai remains an outstanding international host city. However, if the fighters cannot come to Dubai, then we’ll bring the fight to Manchester—to Ricky’s home.” The card was originally headlined by Hatton and Al Dah but was scrapped following Hatton's death, leading Brook to step in as a replacement to honour his memory.

Brook's Return and Charitable Cause

Kell Brook, 39, from Sheffield, has not fought since his victory over Amir Khan in February 2022. His decision to face Al Dah is a heartfelt tribute to Ricky Hatton, with all proceeds from the event set to benefit the Ricky Hatton Foundation. This charity provides crucial support for individuals battling mental illness, adding a poignant layer to the bout.

Eisa Al Dah expressed his commitment, saying: “The fight means everything to me. After the sad loss of Ricky, and with Kell Brook stepping in to replace him, I will continue to honour Ricky’s legacy. Now I have the opportunity to do that in his hometown—his own backyard.”

Additional Highlights on the Card

The rescheduled event, previously dubbed 'Destiny In the Desert,' will feature several notable participants. Campbell Hatton, Ricky's son, is coming out of retirement to take part in an exhibition contest. Campbell had walked away from boxing two years ago with a professional record of 14-2 after consecutive defeats to James Flint. Additionally, the card will include appearances by Jack and Lola, the nephew and niece of the 'Hitman,' ensuring the Hatton family legacy remains central to the proceedings.

This postponement underscores the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on international sporting events, while highlighting the resilience of the boxing community in adapting to challenges. Fans eagerly await the new date, as the move to Manchester promises a heartfelt homage to Ricky Hatton in his hometown.
