Manchester United have lodged a formal complaint with the PGMOL after being denied a second penalty in their 2-2 draw at Bournemouth. Club officials were left furious by referee Stuart Attwell's decision not to award a spot-kick when Amad appeared to be pulled to the ground in the area, moments before Ryan Christie equalised for the Cherries. VAR did not overturn the call.
Interim head coach Michael Carrick described the decision as 'baffling' and 'astonishing', stating he would take no comfort even if the PGMOL admits a mistake. 'You can have all the conversations in the world about could it have been this, could it have been that? I just think that's for VAR. If they've already given one and agreed that that was a penalty, then surely the next one should be a straightforward one?' Carrick said.
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that on-loan Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is now fully fit after recent issues. Rashford, who was sidelined for three weeks in February with a minor knee problem, has played only 79 minutes across his last four appearances as the club managed his workload. 'Marcus had some issues in the last few days and we took care of him. Now he's back to 100 per cent,' Flick said ahead of Barca's clash with Rayo Vallecano.
Flick emphasised that Rashford will be needed in the final weeks of the season as Barcelona fight for the La Liga title and remain in the Champions League. 'We need all the players until the end, and we don't know what will happen after that. There's time to make decisions. I believe in my players,' he added. Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona still intend to make Rashford's move permanent this summer, subject to financial constraints.
