Manchester United have been presented with two potential swap deals that could end Marcus Rashford's career at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Barcelona and is expected to return to his parent club this summer after a successful season. However, manager Michael Carrick may decide to act on one of two proposals that could see Rashford depart permanently.
Swap Deal with AC Milan for Rafael Leao
The first proposal, backed by former United defender Jaap Stam, involves a straight swap with AC Milan for Portuguese winger Rafael Leao. Leao, who has a £131 million release clause, has been frequently linked with a move to Manchester. Stam believes the deal would benefit all parties, stating: "Maybe a swap between Rafael Leao and Marcus Rashford could work. Leao is also a good player. He has shown his potential at Milan, of course, in what he can do. I think he is a player that should be on the list of targets for Man Utd." Stam also emphasised the importance of considering mentality alongside skill: "You need to consider the situation where the club is, what player they are bringing in that is going to help the club going forward, so that you don't get any irritations from players who are not being picked to start."
Alternative Swap with Barcelona for Marc Casado
Another potential solution involves signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado. According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United have entered the race for the 22-year-old Spanish international. A deal for Casado could offer Barcelona a more straightforward path to signing Rashford permanently without activating their £26 million purchase option. Carrick is keen to strengthen his midfield following the departure of Casemiro. Barcelona have not yet activated their clause for Rashford, and negotiations over the transfer fee are ongoing.
Rashford's Season at Barcelona
Rashford has impressed during his loan spell at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. His performances have prompted teammate Frenkie de Jong to urge him to stay in Catalonia. De Jong said: "Yes, I believe so. In the minutes he's played, he has given us a lot: goals, assists, depth. He is a fast player, who threatens rival defences. I would be delighted if he continued with us. He arrived here with a lot of enthusiasm. He was very happy to be here and from the first moment he arrived you could already see that he wanted to stay. He's tried to adapt as best he could and I've seen him do well."
