Manchester United face £15.9m payout after sacking Ruben Amorim

Manchester United could be forced to pay sacked manager Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff an additional £15.9 million, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The 41-year-old was dismissed last month with 18 months remaining on his contract.

The club disclosed a provision of £15.9 million for potential future settlement payments, though the actual payout may be reduced if Amorim secures another managerial role. United also wrote off £6.3 million in compensation paid to Sporting CP to bring Amorim to Old Trafford.

Amorim's departure adds to a series of costly sackings under Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Former manager Erik ten Hag and his staff received £14.5 million, while sporting director Dan Ashworth was paid £4.1 million after just five months in the role.

During his tenure, Amorim led United to their lowest league finish in over 50 years, 15th place, winning only 24 of 63 matches. Interim manager Michael Carrick has since won five of six games.
