Training Accident Sidelines United's Cunha
Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha faces fresh fitness concerns after missing a scheduled public appearance due to what organisers described as an accident during training on Saturday. The 26-year-old Brazilian was forced to pull out of Altrincham's 'Neon Noel' Christmas lights switch-on event at short notice.
Christmas Event Cancellation Sparks Concern
Visit Altrincham announced the unexpected development through social media, stating: "Unfortunately Matheis Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight's Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons." Cunha had been scheduled to perform the ceremonial duty alongside Coronation Street actor Sam Aston, who plays Chesney in the long-running soap.
Mounting Injury Crisis for United
The training incident raises significant questions about Cunha's availability for Manchester United's crucial Premier League return against Everton on Monday. His potential absence compounds manager Ruben Amorim's attacking problems, with several key players already unavailable. Benjamin Sesko remains sidelined for approximately three weeks with a knee injury, while top scorer Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations from 7 December.
The defensive department also faces challenges, with Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez already ruled out of the Everton encounter. There are additional concerns about midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who is considered a doubt for the match. Cunha's potential absence represents another significant blow for United, with the summer signing from Wolves having impressed during his early appearances for the Red Devils.
