Kimi Antonelli produced a composed and gutsy drive to win the Miami Grand Prix, holding off defending champion Lando Norris in a tense battle to the flag. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver, in only his second Formula One season, secured his third consecutive victory and extended his championship lead to 20 points over teammate George Russell.
The race turned on a pit stop strategy, with Mercedes opting for an undercut that allowed Antonelli to just pass Norris as he emerged from the pit lane. Norris had earlier taken the lead from Antonelli on track but was unable to reclaim it despite intense pressure. Oscar Piastri finished third for McLaren, while Max Verstappen recovered to fifth after a first-lap spin.
Antonelli's win was notable for coming without the pace advantage Mercedes enjoyed in previous rounds. McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull brought upgrades to Miami, making the race a straight fight. Team principal Toto Wolff praised Antonelli's performance as 'really impressive', while the teenager said: 'This is just the beginning. The road is still long.'
The victory further cements Antonelli's status as a title contender, while Russell, the pre-season favourite, now faces pressure to respond. Mercedes remain undefeated in grands prix this season and have a major upgrade planned for the next round in Canada.
