Tottenham urged to sign Jan Paul van Hecke as Micky van de Ven partner

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro has urged the club to sign Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke this summer, believing he would be the ideal partner for Micky van de Ven. Speaking exclusively to Reach PLC via Ivy Casino, Sandro described the 25-year-old as 'ready' and praised his ball-playing ability and aggressive but intelligent defending.

Tottenham are expected to undergo significant squad changes after finishing 17th, surviving relegation by just two points. The club is close to signing Bournemouth's Marcos Senesi on a free transfer, but Sandro believes Van Hecke, who has one year left on his contract, would be a better fit. Van Hecke previously played under current Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton.

Sandro emphasised that Van de Ven must stay at Tottenham, calling him 'so important' and suggesting he should be made captain. He compared the Dutch defender to Arsenal's Gabriel, saying Van de Ven has the potential to become a similar leader at Spurs. 'If we let him go, it will be losing Romero and him,' Sandro warned, referring to Cristian Romero's potential departure.

With Romero and Radu Dragusin linked with exits, Tottenham's right-sided centre-back options include Kevin Danso and Luka Vuskovic, who impressed on loan at Hamburg. Sandro urged De Zerbi to build the team around Van de Ven, saying the defender needs a strong squad to shine.
