Tottenham's 'Emergency' Spurs Derby Motivation Against Faltering Arsenal

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Igor Tudor has declared his side are in an "emergency situation" but insists this will only fuel a "bigger motivation" to pile misery onto Arsenal's faltering Premier League title challenge in this weekend's North London derby.

Arsenal's Squeaky Bum Time Presents Opportunity

Interim boss Tudor, speaking ahead of Sunday's clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, acknowledged the severe injury crisis limiting his options but pointed to Arsenal's recent struggles as a prime opportunity. The Gunners have managed just two victories from their last seven matches, including a midweek collapse where they surrendered a two-goal lead to draw against bottom-placed Wolves.

"I hope so. Is it a good time to play against Arsenal at home? It's always a good time to play against Arsenal at home," Tudor stated when asked if the timing was favourable. "Arsenal gives you bigger motivation, ok bigger quality of opponent, but also bigger motivation. So I hope we see concrete things on Sunday."

Pressure Mounts on Arteta as City Loom

The result at Molineux means Manchester City could close the gap at the summit to just two points before Sunday's derby kicks off, intensifying the pressure on Mikel Arteta's side. Tudor emphasised that despite Tottenham's own precarious position, the home advantage and the occasion itself provide a platform to capitalise.

"We respect them but we play at home. Let's see what will happen," he added. "We need to have courage, confidence. We have good players, they have good players. So let's see what will happen. Be humble but brave, intelligent. The right things to do to put in the pitch. We play at home, eh?"

Squad Crisis Limits Tactical Overhaul

Tudor, the former Croatia defender whose last managerial role was with Italian giants Juventus, admitted the injury crisis has prevented him from implementing a more attractive style of play he would ideally desire. He revealed he has only ten fit outfield players plus three substitutes available, forcing a pragmatic approach.

"Style of play comes from pre-season when you have 50 days in pre-season and you have 20 players. Of course when you have the style, very concrete," Tudor explained. "But now this is an emergency, an emergency situation when you need to find fast what suits the ten plus three players we have and it's totally different."

Despite these constraints, Tudor's message was clear: the derby represents a chance for Tottenham to harness their circumstances and add to Arsenal's growing anxieties. The stage is set for a high-stakes encounter where motivation may prove as crucial as quality.
