Wolverhampton Wanderers have turned down a £50 million offer from Newcastle United for striker Jørgen Strand Larsen, insisting the Norwegian is not for sale. The club are aware that Newcastle identified Strand Larsen as a key target, but Wolves maintain they cannot afford to sell him before the transfer window closes on Monday, deeming him irreplaceable given the timing and his Premier League goalscoring record.
Newcastle are without a recognised number nine due to Alexander Isak's continued absence and Callum Wilson's departure at the end of his contract. Wolves head coach Vítor Pereira considers Strand Larsen his only senior striker. The 25-year-old scored 14 top-flight goals for Wolves last season and joined permanently in a £23 million deal in July after a successful loan from Celta Vigo.
Strand Larsen was substituted late in Wolves' defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday with what Pereira described as a minor Achilles problem. Wolves have already sold Matheus Cunha, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and former captain Nélson Semedo this summer. Pereira hopes to offload Fábio Silva permanently, while Hwang Hee-chan and Sasa Kalajdzic could also depart before the deadline.
Newcastle have failed in attempts to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford, while Benjamin Sesko preferred a move to Manchester United. They were also interested in Liam Delap and João Pedro, both of whom joined Chelsea. Pereira wants at least three more signings: a central defender, with the club pushing for Girona's Ladislav Krejci, a central midfielder, and a versatile forward.
