Adam Peaty's Competitive Return Yields Fourth Place Finish in Edinburgh
Triple Olympic champion Adam Peaty has experienced a reality check upon his return to competitive swimming, months after marrying Holly Ramsay. The 31-year-old British swimmer participated in his first long-course competition since the Paris 2024 Olympics, finishing fourth in the men's 100m breaststroke at the Edinburgh International Swim Meet.
Race Details and Performance Analysis
Peaty, a specialist in the 100m breaststroke, demonstrated initial speed by being the fastest at the 50m turn. However, he lost momentum on the final stretch, recording a time of 1:00.74. This performance was notably slower than his world record of 56.88, which he set at the 2019 World Championships in South Korea.
The race was won by Filip Nowacki with a time of 1:00.26. Gregory Butler secured second place with 1:00.37, while Max Morgan took third with 1:00.54. Some rustiness was anticipated from Peaty due to his extended absence from elite competition, marking this as his first major long-course event since earning a silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Personal Life and Media Appearances
Peaty married Holly Ramsay, daughter of renowned chef Gordon Ramsay, in a lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey in December 2025. The wedding was accompanied by rumours of a family dispute, reportedly intensifying after Peaty's mother, Caroline, was not invited to the bride's hen party.
The couple features prominently in the new Netflix documentary series Being Gordon Ramsay. This series tracks the Michelin-starred chef over nine months as he prepares to open three restaurants, a bar, and a cooking academy in London. The documentary includes footage of the couple revealing their engagement to the Ramsay family and scenes from their engagement party.
In the second episode, Gordon Ramsay praised his son-in-law, stating: "Holly's partner is an amazing young man called Adam Peaty. He's a gent, an absolute thoroughbred. To see her walk down the aisle is going to be pretty incredible." Peaty and Holly shared their engagement news on Instagram in September 2024, with the episode capturing the Ramsay family's reaction.
Gordon and his wife, Tana, expressed that they "couldn't be happier" to welcome Peaty and his son into the family. Peaty was previously in a relationship with Eirianedd Munro, with whom he shares a five-year-old son named George-Anderson.
Future Competitions and Training
During the documentary, Peaty recalled the "daunting" moment he sought Holly's parents' blessing to marry her, describing it as a "very wonderful moment that I'll remember for the rest of my life." Episode four covers the couple's engagement party, where Peaty disclosed that he knew he wanted to marry Holly because she "brings me a peace that I've never had in all aspects in my life."
Looking ahead, Peaty, a two-time Olympic breaststroke champion, is scheduled to compete at two major events this summer: the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the European Championships in Paris. He recently undertook a training camp on Australia's Gold Coast to prepare for these competitions, aiming to regain his peak form after his break from the sport.
