Lakin expresses concerns about the sustainability of the Vegas initiative for other Super League clubs, particularly given the NRL's multi-year contract. "Clubs with major hospitality facilities cannot easily forfeit home game revenue," he explains. "Furthermore, the NRL must approve participating clubs based on their potential contribution to the event. Leeds and ourselves are bringing approximately 10,000 fans combined, which demonstrates genuine commitment."
A Club Rooted in Community
Despite their global ambitions, Hull KR remain deeply connected to their East Hull roots. Lakin emphasizes the club's role in a socially deprived area, where supporters often make significant sacrifices to attend matches. "Sport provides essential escapism," he reflects. "For many of our fans, matchday is the highlight of their week, offering respite from challenging daily lives."
Craven Park: Embracing Unconventional Charm
While other clubs have invested heavily in player acquisitions, Hull KR have focused on enhancing their unique stadium, Craven Park. Described by Lakin as "the most higgledy-piggledy stadium you've ever seen," the venue has become a selling point rather than a liability. "It's quirky, just like our club," he says proudly. "We consistently sell out our 12,000 capacity, maintaining a waiting list for tickets. Our Craven Streat concept and matchday entertainment have created a distinctive atmosphere that attracts interest nationwide."

The club's on-field achievements have translated into commercial growth, with partnerships from national brands like Specsavers. Regarding sustained success within salary cap constraints, Lakin stresses the importance of adaptability. "You must make recruitment decisions earlier rather than later and demonstrate bravery," he advises. "We brought in players like Michael McIlorum and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves for specific, short-term objectives. Loyalty matters, but strategic evolution is crucial."
Inspiring Others and League Expansion
Hull KR's journey from lower divisions to champions offers hope to other clubs. Lakin believes their breakthrough demonstrates that the stranglehold of traditional powerhouses can be broken. "Leigh and Wakefield, who have experienced similar challenges, can look at our success and believe it's achievable," he asserts.
Lakin advocates for Super League expansion, suggesting the inclusion of London Broncos to create a 15-team competition. "Bye weeks benefit everyone," he argues. "The NRL model proves this works. We must support developing clubs like York, Toulouse, and Bradford by allowing them time to build rather than setting them up for failure through premature relegation."
Building a Legacy
With coach Willie Peters contracted until 2028 and key players like Mikey Lewis and Jez Litten secured long-term, Hull KR are planning for continued success. Lakin emphasizes the importance of regular finals experience, noting that the club's appearance in four of the last six major finals has been instrumental in their trophy wins.
