Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak has been praised for tracking down a young fan after an adult spectator snatched a hat he had given to the boy during a US Open match. The incident occurred on Court 11 on Thursday, August 28, following Majchrzak's five-set victory over ninth seed Karen Khachanov.
As Majchrzak signed autographs, he handed his Asics-branded cap to a child. However, an older man grabbed the hat from the boy and refused to return it, despite the child's protests. The moment was captured on live television and widely condemned online, with many calling the man a 'bully' and his actions 'disgusting'.
Majchrzak, 29, took to Instagram to ask for help locating the boy, saying: 'After the match I didn't get to record that my cap didn't get to the boy. Thanks to @asicstennis I've got enough caps so I'm prepared for that.' He added: 'Hey Guys, could you help me find the Kid from my match.'
Hours later, the world number 75 confirmed the boy had been found, writing: 'I am impressed by the power of the Internet. We got it! All good now.' Fans hailed him as a 'legend' and a 'class act', with one saying he 'won the hearts of fans around the world'.
Majchrzak now faces qualifier Leandro Riedi on Friday (August 30) for a place in the fourth round, which would be his best-ever US Open result.
