Liverpool Step Up Pursuit of Hoffenheim Winger Bazoumana Toure
Liverpool are reportedly maintaining a vigilant watch on Hoffenheim's promising winger Bazoumana Toure, with scouts from the Premier League club attending the German side's league matches "almost every week" according to sources in Germany. The 20-year-old Ivorian international is seen as a viable long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, who has confirmed his departure from Anfield at the season's end.
Transfer Fee and Contract Details
Sport Bild indicates that Toure is likely to command a transfer fee in the region of £34.84 million (€40 million). His current contract with Hoffenheim extends until 2029 and notably does not include a release clause, potentially complicating negotiations. This valuation could escalate further if Toure delivers standout performances at the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where Ivory Coast will compete in a group featuring Germany, Ecuador, and Curacao.
Competition and Scouting Activity
Liverpool are not alone in their interest, with other top Premier League sides such as Aston Villa also monitoring the young talent. The German outlet reports that Liverpool scouts were present during Toure's full 90-minute appearance for Ivory Coast in a recent 1-0 friendly victory over Scotland. Additionally, Toure has already made an impact on the international stage, scoring two goals in three appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Player Profile and Career Trajectory
Hoffenheim's managing director, Andreas Schicker, has publicly praised Toure, describing him as "a very exciting player, who already possesses very good abilities at his young age and still has enormous potential for development." Schicker added, "He is a quick, technically strong and dangerous attacking player."
Toure began his professional career at ASEC Mimosas, widely regarded as Ivory Coast's premier club, breaking into the first team during the 2022–23 season. He then moved to Swedish side Hammarby IF, where he quickly became a regular starter at just 18 years old. In his debut season, he recorded nine goals and four assists in 23 appearances, helping Hammarby achieve an unexpected runners-up finish in the Swedish league.
Last February, after only a year in the Allsvenskan, Toure transferred to Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for approximately £12 million (€14 million). He made an immediate impression, with teammate Oliver Baumann highlighting his "enormous potential" following a debut where he struck the woodwork.
Teammate Endorsements and On-Field Impact
After Hoffenheim's victory against Mainz, in which Toure provided both assists, former teammate Anton Stach commented, "You always have to be careful not to overhype such young players. But he brings a tremendous amount to our game, especially with his depth. You can also tell that the opposing players have a lot of respect for his speed. He gives us the opportunities we were lacking earlier in the season."
Liverpool's Broader Scouting Network
In related transfer news, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on another Ivorian talent, RB Leipzig's 19-year-old winger Yan Diomande. Since joining Leipzig from Leganes last summer, Diomande has rapidly emerged as one of Germany's most prolific young players. His hat-trick in a 6–0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last December made him the second-youngest player in Bundesliga history to achieve such a feat.
Diomande is anticipated to command a significantly higher fee, estimated around £87.3 million (€100 million). With three goals in his first nine caps for Ivory Coast, his market value could similarly increase following the summer's international competitions.
