Linda Perry, the renowned singer and songwriter best known for her work with 4 Non Blondes, has called on songwriters to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), arguing that the technology can simplify creative processes and help prevent exploitation.
A Call for Adoption, Not Fear
Speaking at the 2026 Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday, 21 May, where she received the special international award, Perry said that resisting technological advancement is futile. “Running from the future means running from solutions,” she stated. “Embracing AI allows us to navigate its use and ensures we are not manipulated by it.”
James Blunt Echoes the Sentiment
British artist James Blunt, who presented Perry with her award, supported her perspective. He highlighted AI’s potential in music production, noting that it can perfect backing vocals and streamline recording processes. Blunt emphasised that AI is a tool that, when used wisely, can enhance creativity rather than replace it.
The Ivor Novello Awards
The Ivor Novello Awards, organised by the Ivors Academy, honour outstanding achievements in songwriting and composing. Perry’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about AI’s role in the arts, with some artists expressing concern over copyright and authenticity.
Perry’s advocacy for AI adoption reflects a growing trend among musicians to integrate technology into their workflows, viewing it as a collaborative partner rather than a threat.
