Samsung Galaxy S26 Series Unveiled with AI Innovations and Price Increases
Samsung has officially launched its latest smartphone lineup, the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The tech giant is positioning these devices as pioneers in the "AI phone" era, integrating Galaxy AI to enhance user experience with features like automatic screenshot categorization, natural language search, and live call captions.
AI and Hardware Enhancements
The S26 series boasts significant AI capabilities, including background audio dampening in apps like YouTube and Netflix, and generative photo editing tools. Samsung aims for these phones to proactively anticipate user needs rather than waiting for commands.
In terms of hardware, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is notably slimmer at 7.9mm thick, yet incorporates a larger vapour cooling chamber. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and features a new 50MP ultra-wide lens, improved low-light processing, and 360-degree horizon stabilisation for steady video recording.
A standout addition is the built-in privacy display designed to prevent shoulder surfing. The S26 and S26 Plus models come with Samsung's Exynos 2600 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage as standard.
Price Hikes Across the Board
Despite previous years of stable pricing, Samsung has increased costs for the entire S26 lineup in the UK. The Galaxy S26 starts at £879 for the 256GB model, a £30 rise from the S25. The S26 Plus sees a steep £100 jump, starting at £1,099 for 256GB. The S26 Ultra begins at £1,279 for 256GB, £30 more than its predecessor. All models now offer 256GB as standard, which Samsung suggests mitigates the price impact.
Pre-Order Details and Deals
The phones are available for pre-order now in the UK, with shipping starting on 11 March. Colour options include black, white, cobalt violet, and sky blue, with exclusive pink gold and silver for the S26 Ultra when ordered directly from Samsung.
Pre-order bonuses include double storage at no extra cost, applicable across all retailers and carriers. For example, a 256GB phone upgrades to 512GB, and a 512GB model boosts to 1TB.
Sky Mobile has announced early pre-order deals, with the S26 Ultra starting from £45 per month, the S26 Plus from £38, and the standard S26 from £30, plus a £12 up-front cost. Data plans are additional, with options like 5GB for £6 per month initially. Pre-orders also come with free Galaxy Watch8 models, depending on the phone chosen.
These developments highlight Samsung's push into AI-driven technology, though consumers face higher prices in the UK market.
