While the anticipated launch of Battlefield 6 Season 2 has been pushed back, developer Battlefield Studios has not left players waiting, deploying a substantial new patch for the game across all platforms.
Update Release Time and Details
This significant new update, labelled version 1.1.3.5, became available for download on January 20, 2026. The studio confirmed via social media platform X that the patch went live at 9:00 AM GMT for players in the United Kingdom.
For international audiences, this corresponded to a 1:00 AM PDT start on the US West Coast, 4:00 AM EDT on the East Coast, and 10:00 AM CET for gamers across mainland Europe. The update is mandatory for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC users, who must install it before they can re-enter the game's servers.
Core Gameplay and Combat Refinements
The patch introduces a suite of improvements aimed at enhancing the feel and fairness of combat. A primary focus has been on melee attack behaviour, with adjustments to both knives and the sledgehammer.
Developers have improved the responsiveness and consistency of these close-quarters tools, alongside refining how sprinting is interrupted when a player initiates a melee strike. Now, sprint is only halted until the attack connects, rather than for the entire animation duration, allowing for smoother follow-up movement.
Another major balance change targets the skies. Jet combat has been revamped, with the effectiveness of jet cannons against other air vehicles notably reduced. According to the patch notes, destroying an enemy jet or helicopter now requires approximately 40% more hits, a shift designed to prolong aerial engagements and alter meta strategies.
Interface, Visuals, and Bug Fixes
Quality-of-life enhancements extend to the game's presentation. Updates to the user-interface and HUD across standard multiplayer and the REDSEC mode promise clearer information for players.
Improvements include better visibility of armour status, superior reticle presentation, and overall easier menu navigation. A new, welcome addition allows players to customise their reticle colour within weapon and gadget scopes, a feature that now correctly applies to Thermal Scopes as well.
The patch also squashes a lengthy list of bugs. Key fixes address issues where vehicles could explode if an enemy soldier on top was taken down, and correct problems with specific weapon attachments and optics displaying incorrect stats or costs. Gadgets like the Sniper Decoy and Assault Ladder have also received attention to make them function more reliably.
REDSEC and Battle Royale Adjustments
The update brings specific tweaks to the REDSEC experience, aligning movement mechanics like jump landing speed reduction with other game modes. In the popular Gauntlet mode, a rare bug that could cause a key drone to permanently vanish has been resolved.
For Battle Royale enthusiasts, intermittent issues causing the armour bar to disappear have been fixed, ensuring vital combat information remains consistently on-screen.
This comprehensive update serves as a substantial prelude to the content expected with Season 2, now confirmed for a release in February. By refining core mechanics and fixing persistent issues, Battlefield Studios aims to deliver a more polished and balanced experience for its player base as they await the next major seasonal chapter.
