According to a report from Forbes writer Paul Tassi, the substantial Shadow and Order update for Destiny 2 has been delayed. It was originally scheduled to arrive on March 3, 2026. The primary reason cited is the release of Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, which is now confirmed for launch just two days later on March 5.
Tassi stated on social media platform X: "Have heard Shadow and Order will in fact be delayed to make room for Marathon on March 5 given it was supposed to come out on March 3. Not sure how long, or when it will be announced, however." This move suggests Bungie is keen to avoid splitting its own audience and ensure a smooth rollout for its new flagship project.
What This Means for Destiny 2
The Shadow and Order update was intended to be the final major content drop for Destiny 2's Year of Prophecy season. This narrative arc began with the Rite of the Nine in-game event back in May 2025. Its delay leaves a significant gap in the game's content calendar, though Bungie has yet to officially announce the new date or the duration of the postponement.
