Podcaster and influencer Abbie Chatfield has shared a painfully relatable lesson in the perils of posting online this week, after a major wardrobe oversight saw her share a video on TikTok without wearing any trousers.
The Pants-Free Posting Incident
The 30-year-old media personality took to Instagram on Thursday to confess to the hilarious social media faux pas. The incident began when Abbie recorded a seemingly innocent video for TikTok, intending to show off a large piece of artwork in her living room.
However, her cheerful demeanour swiftly turned to horror when she realised a critical detail after posting: she had completely forgotten to put on any pants before filming. In the clip, she could be seen walking around her home wearing only a blue spotted sleeveless top and a G-string.
Damage Control and Comic Relaunch
Upon noticing the "embarrassing" error, Abbie stated she immediately pulled the original video down from TikTok. Yet, demonstrating her trademark self-deprecating humour, she decided not to let the moment go to waste.
She re-uploaded the "pants-less" moment to both Instagram and TikTok, this time to deliberately highlight her own blunder for her followers. "I can't believe I committed the influencer cardinal sin and uploaded a f***ing video without editing out the end," she exclaimed in the new clip, captioning it: "I'm so embarrassed hahahahaha."
In the follow-up video, she watched the original footage back with her audience, reacting in mock horror. "I'm in my undies. Oh my god," she said. "I had to pull it [the video] down. Undies. Undies. In my G-string."
Follower Reaction and Fellow Influencer Sympathy
Abbie noted that it took her 709,000 TikTok followers a surprising 20 minutes to comment on her cheeky display. To underscore her embarrassment, she soundtracked the clip with Charli XCX's song 'House', which features the apt lyric: "I think I'm gonna die in this house."
Her followers, however, were overwhelmingly supportive, praising her for laughing at herself. "I love that you doubled down and shared it again, yes queen!" one fan wrote. Another added, "The ability to laugh at oneself shows a lot of humility and whimsy!"
Fellow influencers also chimed in with sympathy. Married At First Sight star Jacqui Burfoot admitted to similar slip-ups, writing, "Babe I regularly offer up a nip slip because I don’t proof check either... Luckily my ladies are onto it within seconds!!" Influencer Brittany Saunders responded with a string of laughing emojis, prompting Abbie to ask if she'd ever made the same mistake in her long career.
The incident serves as a very public reminder of the split-second scrutiny facing content creators, and the value of checking your footage—and your outfit—before you post.
