Animal Crossing Switch 2 Upgrade Missing? How to Get 3.0 Update & Resort Hotel
Fix: Missing Animal Crossing Switch 2 Upgrade & 3.0 Update

Nintendo has finally launched the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but a number of players are reporting they cannot locate the new edition on their consoles. The release coincides with the massive 3.0 update, which went live on Thursday 15 January 2026.

How to Manually Download the Animal Crossing 3.0 Update

If you already own the original game but the new content hasn't appeared, you may need to trigger the update manually. The process is straightforward but essential for accessing the new Resort Hotel and other features.

To check for the free update, simply highlight the Animal Crossing: New Horizons icon on your system's Home Menu. Next, press the + button on your controller and select 'Software Update' from the menu that appears. You will need an active internet connection to complete the download. This method works for both the original Nintendo Switch and the newer Switch 2 console.

What's New in the Switch 2 Edition and 3.0 Update?

The core 3.0 update brings a wealth of new content to all players. The headline addition is the grand opening of a brand new Resort Hotel on the pier. Players will know the update has successfully loaded when Isabelle announces the hotel's opening during the morning announcements.

At the hotel, you can help decorate guest rooms, select furniture, and even design outfits for mannequins in the hotel's souvenir shop. The update also sees the return of Mr. Resetti, who now offers a Reset Service to help tidy up your island. Furthermore, home storage capacity has been significantly increased to hold up to 9,000 items, including trees, shrubs, and flowers.

Exclusive Switch 2 Enhancements and Cross-Over Content

The dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the game includes exclusive quality-of-life improvements on top of the standard 3.0 update. These include a new megaphone item for communicating with villagers and a major expansion to multiplayer, which now supports up to 12 players simultaneously, up from the previous limit of eight.

There is also new Nintendo crossover content available. Players who have compatible Legend of Zelda or Splatoon Amiibo figures can scan them to unlock themed furniture, clothing, and wallpaper items for use on their islands.

Pricing and Access Details for Players

For existing owners of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Switch 2 upgrade pack is available for $4.99 on Nintendo's digital store. If you are new to the game and own a Switch 2, you can purchase the complete, brand-new Switch 2 Edition for $64.99.

Although the updates arrived slightly ahead of schedule, the exclusive Switch 2 edition features were not accessible until midnight local time on January 15. Once the update is installed, players can dive into the new content immediately, provided they have already unlocked the character Kapp'n in the game.

Additionally, Nintendo Switch Online members gain the valuable ability to design and save up to three different island layouts.
