A dedicated charity shop enthusiast has made what he calls his "greatest ever find," snagging a treasure trove of retro gaming items for a mere £20. The man, who goes by RK Gaming on social media with over 25,000 followers, describes himself as a "charity shop hunter" and regularly shares his incredible discoveries, often reselling them for substantial profits.
The Unbelievable Discovery
In a recent TikTok video, RK Gaming showcased his remarkable haul, exclaiming, "I still cannot believe it." The clip begins with him browsing an Age UK charity shop, where he previously found a Mario Kart remote control car. He then visits another shop, revealing he had missed a valuable item earlier in the week and returned to claim it.
A Lucky Find Among the Clothes
After initially thinking the item was gone, he discovered it hidden between clothes: a toy of the were-rabbit from the 2005 film Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. With a pricetag of just £3, he noted it last sold on eBay for £70. But the real jackpot came when he asked staff for more gaming items.
The Retro Gaming Goldmine
He was handed a bag containing a Sega Master System 2, numerous games, and accessories. One of the games, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, sells for £45 at CEX. The entire lot cost only £20. Released in 1990, the Sega Master System 2 was a cheaper version of the original console, featuring classics like Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star.
Viewer Reactions and Community Buzz
Viewers were astounded by the find. One commented, "Oh my god, what a find, crazy," while another shared their own charity shop experiences, saying, "I did two charity shop hunts yesterday. Nothing exciting but I loved a rummage." RK Gaming replied, "90% of the time I get nothing. I just go into so many."
Another user mentioned picking up a Care Bears book from 1984 for 25p, planning to flip it, to which RK Gaming responded, "I need to look into books a bit more. Some good money to be made!" Additional comments praised the find, with one noting, "Alex Kidd! Great game! But seriously what an amazing find," and another sharing, "My greatest ever charity shop find was finding one of my favourite books in a hard back sprayed edges for 50p only to find when I got home it’s worth £700+."
The Thrill of the Hunt
This story highlights the potential for hidden gems in charity shops, where items like retro gaming consoles and rare collectibles can be found at a fraction of their market value. For enthusiasts like RK Gaming, the hunt is as rewarding as the find, proving that with persistence, incredible bargains are still out there.
