JetBlue Pilot Reports Drone Strike at 3,000ft on JFK Approach

A JetBlue Airways pilot reported that his aircraft was struck by a drone while approaching John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York on June 29, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15am US time when the flight was preparing to land.

Pilot Reports Collision Above Cockpit

The pilot informed air traffic control that the drone made contact with a section just above the cockpit while the aircraft was at an altitude of 3,000 feet. Despite the collision, the pilot confirmed that the plane could continue its landing without assistance. The pilot stated: "We collided with a drone back there in the turn as we were coming to ASALT, just wanted to pass to you."

After a safe landing, a thorough inspection of the aircraft was conducted. The post-landing examination revealed no damage to the plane as a result of the incident, according to the Daily Star.

FAA Investigation Launched

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed it will investigate the incident. No details about the type of drone involved have been released. JFK Airport is currently hosting an influx of World Cup visitors, as New York is one of the tournament's host cities.

Similar Incident Days Earlier

This event follows a similar report on June 26, when a United Airlines pilot spotted a drone while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport. In that case, the drone did not make contact with the aircraft. According to ABC, a pilot from another unidentified airline also reported seeing a small drone in the same area earlier that day. Both aircraft landed without incident.

United Airlines issued a statement: "United flight 1513 reported a potential drone sighting prior to arriving in Newark. The flight landed safely, and customers deplaned normally at the gate."
