A significant stretch of the United Kingdom is poised to experience temperatures soaring to 22 degrees Celsius, as indicated by recent weather projections. According to maps issued by WXCharts, which utilise data from MetDesk, regions including West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Kent, London, and Essex are anticipated to enjoy highs of 22C by the evening of Friday, May 22.
Regional Temperature Breakdown
The warmest conditions are expected in inland areas shielded from coastal breezes, particularly in eastern Kent, locales surrounding the Thames Estuary, parts of Essex and Suffolk, as well as stretches near the Norfolk-Suffolk border. Elsewhere in southern England and southern Wales, temperatures are forecast to remain in the high teens.
Cooler but Mild Conditions Further North
Moving northward, the maps predict cooler yet still mild weather. Much of the Midlands is shaded for highs in the late teens, while northern Wales, northern England, and Scotland are set for temperatures ranging between approximately 13 and 17C. Northern Ireland may be slightly warmer, with some areas reaching around 18C.
Met Office Long-Range Outlook
In its forecast covering Thursday, May 14, to Saturday, May 23, the Met Office describes the early period as "changeable and at times rather unsettled," featuring spells of rain or showers, some heavy, interspersed with drier intervals. The forecaster adds, "By the end of this period, pressure may increase towards the southwest, which could bring more in the way of dry weather here."
Looking ahead to Sunday, May 24, through Sunday, June 7, the Met Office states: "Compared to earlier in the month, patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times."
