Britain is forecast to experience temperatures up to 30C over the bank holiday weekend, potentially making it the warmest day of the year. Meteorologists suggest there is a 40% chance temperatures could reach 33C in parts of southern England on Sunday, which would surpass the current May record of 32.8C from 1922.
The UK is expected to be hotter than popular Greek holiday destinations such as Mykonos, Rhodes and Santorini. The UK Health Security Agency has issued heat health alerts for the Midlands, eastern England, and south-east England, warning of minor impacts on health and social care services.
A heatwave is officially recorded when an area experiences at least three consecutive days with temperatures meeting or exceeding its regional threshold. In full, temperatures of up to 30C are forecast for the bank holiday weekend.
