The United Kingdom could experience its hottest day on record within weeks, as weather models indicate temperatures exceeding 40C in early July. The current all-time high of 40.3C, set during the July 2022 heatwave, may be surpassed as a new wave of intense heat approaches.
Record-breaking June heat precedes July scorcher
After the hottest June day in UK history was recorded on Friday, with thermometers reaching 37.3C, forecasters are warning of even higher temperatures to come. Fresh weather maps from WX Charts show that the second week of July could bring extreme heat, potentially breaking the national record.
The first signs of the heatwave are expected from July 8, when temperatures could reach between 30C and 35C. The heat is then predicted to intensify, with models for July 10 indicating that temperatures could approach 40C in some areas, with 37C to 39C being more widespread.
Potential for 41C on July 11
The most extreme conditions are forecast for July 11, where some parts of the country could hit a maximum of 41C, according to WX Charts. If this forecast proves accurate, a considerable portion of the UK could meet the criteria for an official heatwave. The threshold for a heatwave varies between 25C and 28C, depending on the county and location within the UK.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring the situation, as the potential for record-breaking temperatures raises concerns about public health, infrastructure, and wildfire risks. The UK experienced a similar heatwave in July 2022, when temperatures exceeded 40C for the first time, leading to widespread disruption and health warnings.
