Met Office Names 32 Areas Facing Heavy Rain on Wednesday

The Met Office has identified 32 areas across the UK that will be affected by heavy rain on Wednesday, July 1, as a band of wet weather moves in from the Atlantic. The heaviest rain is expected to hit parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England, with some locations potentially seeing 8-16mm of rain per hour.

Timing and Progression of the Rain

According to Met Office forecast maps, the rain will begin to approach the UK's west coast during the early afternoon. By around 2pm, rain is expected to reach parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland, with heavier bursts as the system moves eastward. The wet weather then spreads further inland during the afternoon.

By 5:30pm, rain extends across much of western Scotland and Northern Ireland, with some heavier spells pushing into northwest England. By 8pm, much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of northern England are covered by bands of rain, with some heavier outbreaks across western and central Scotland. The latest 11pm forecast suggests the rain will continue moving east across northern parts of the UK before gradually clearing overnight. Western parts of Yorkshire could also catch some rain later in the evening.

Looking further ahead, the forecaster expects unsettled weather to remain mainly across northern parts of the country.
