The Met Office has pinpointed six areas in Scotland that will experience rain showers on Wednesday, even as much of the UK prepares for the third heatwave of the year. The affected regions are all in Scotland, highlighting a sharp north-south divide in the country's weather this week.
North-South Split Continues
According to the Met Office forecast, while southern and central England will enjoy strong sunshine and very warm conditions, Scotland will see more cloud, stronger winds, and outbreaks of rain. The affected areas include the Highlands, Argyll & Bute, Stirling, Perth & Kinross, Inverclyde, and North Ayrshire.
The Met Office stated: "Staying cloudy with patchy rain in far northwestern Scotland. Dry elsewhere with plenty of sunshine. Very warm widely but feeling hot across southern and central England in the strong sunshine."
Heatwave Builds in the South
Temperatures in southern parts of the UK are forecast to reach 32C on Monday and Tuesday, rising to 33C on Wednesday, 34C on Thursday, and potentially 35C in isolated locations on Friday and Saturday. This marks the third heatwave of the year for the UK.
The Met Office added: "While southern areas see largely settled and increasingly hot conditions, a marked north-south split will persist through the first half of the week. Scotland will see more cloud, stronger winds and outbreaks of rain on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures generally closer to average for the time of year. By the weekend, the warmer air is likely to extend further north across much of the UK."
