A significant fire erupted at the eight-storey AJ Plus Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand, on Thursday night, prompting the evacuation of approximately 240 guests. The blaze began in a rooftop restaurant and rapidly spread to the seventh floor, causing widespread panic among international tourists staying at the resort.
Injuries and Response
Four individuals sustained injuries in the incident. Two Thai women and an Indonesian boy were treated for smoke inhalation, while a Thai man suffered burns covering 20 per cent of his body. Fire crews from Pattaya and the Nong Prue municipality worked diligently to bring the fire under control, succeeding after more than an hour of efforts. Authorities confirmed that no guests were trapped inside the building.
Investigation and Aftermath
Preliminary investigations suggest that a possible electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. The hotel has been temporarily closed to allow for thorough safety inspections, and all affected guests have been relocated to nearby accommodations. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about fire safety in tourist accommodations, though local officials have assured that measures are being taken to prevent future occurrences.
