Chipotle Tests Happy Hour with $2.50 Tacos to Boost Customer Traffic
Chipotle Tests $2.50 Taco Happy Hour to Boost Traffic

Chipotle Mexican Grill is trialing a limited-time happy hour promotion, offering single tacos for $2.50 at select restaurants across the United States. The deal, available on weekdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, is designed to draw customers back to the chain amid evolving dining habits.

The discounted taco, which typically costs between $3.50 and $4.80 depending on protein choice and location, is available at participating outlets in Orlando and Tampa, Florida; Kansas City, Missouri; and Kansas City, Kansas. The offer runs until June 2 and applies only to in-restaurant orders. Add-ons such as guacamole, queso blanco, or extra protein incur additional charges.

This promotion is part of Chipotle's broader "Power Up at Chipotle" campaign, which the company says "offers guests a new way to snack and recharge with real ingredients." According to a press release, the initiative targets consumers seeking quick, satisfying snacks made from whole foods.

"As more guests turn to restaurants for snacks, we're looking at how Chipotle can fit into those moments," said Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Chipotle. "When many snacks rely on artificial ingredients, Chipotle offers a different kind of boost—real food made without shortcuts. Power Up at Chipotle makes it easy to grab something quick and satisfying, whether you're heading to practice, between classes, or meeting up with friends."

The happy hour test follows recent upgrades to Chipotle's rewards program. In April, the company overhauled its loyalty system, promising "more frequent rewards, greater flexibility, and deeper everyday engagement for its 21 million members." Key changes include non-expiring loyalty points (provided customers make at least one qualifying purchase of $5 annually), reduced points required for reward redemptions, and new options like a 50% discount on a single meal.

Additionally, Chipotle has been expanding its drone delivery service in partnership with Zipline. Residents in North Fort Worth, Texas, within a three-mile radius of the 7400 block of North Beach Street can now receive orders via drone. The service, launched in August 2025, uses Zipline's Platform 2 drones capable of operating in rain, heat, and cold. Initially limited to orders weighing up to five and a half pounds, the capacity is expected to increase to eight pounds as technology advances. Customers pay a $2.99 delivery fee plus a 15% service fee capped at $6 per order.
