Market Place in Leicester Square and Vauxhall has launched a Wimbledon-themed menu featuring unusual strawberry pairings, with the standout dish being a salmon and strawberry sushi roll. The menu includes a Grand Slam Roll from Inamo Sukoshi, which combines salmon, cucumber, cream cheese, black lumpfish roe, and actual strawberry pieces within the rice. Despite the unconventional combination, the burst of sweetness against the tangy soy sauce proved surprisingly delightful.
Bizarre Strawberry Blends on Offer
Other offerings include Animal Wimbledon Fries from Cheeky Burger, featuring skin-on fries with American cheese sauce, crispy onions, and a strawberry balsamic vinegar. While this dish was the least favourite for the reviewer, a companion enjoyed it thoroughly. Duck Shed presents Wimbleduck Croquettes – slow-roast duck croquettes with a sticky sauce combining Pimm's, strawberry, and black pepper. The croquettes were rich but well-complemented by the sauce.
Dessert and Cocktail Highlights
For dessert, FiliGrilz offers a strawberries and cream turon, a Filipino-inspired treat available only at the Leicester Square venue. It consists of bananas wrapped in a spring roll, glazed in strawberry sauce. Priced at £12.75, the themed Pimm's and Champagne Cup cocktail features vanilla vodka and Moët & Chandon champagne, served in a reusable tennis ball cup or Wimbledon paper cup with whipped cream.
Market Place operates as a giant food court with individual restaurants around a central dining area. Customers receive a buzzer to collect food, allowing orders from multiple venues simultaneously. The Wimbledon menu is available for a limited time during the tournament.
