The 2026 edition of Australia's prestigious Rich List showcases the nation's wealthiest individuals, dominated by perennial figures from mining, technology, and retail. However, this year's ranking introduces notable newcomers, most prominently the founders of the youth-oriented fashion label White Fox, whose strategic use of celebrity influence has propelled them into the billionaire echelon.
New Entrants: The Power of Celebrity Endorsement
Daniel and Georgia Contos, the entrepreneurial couple behind the White Fox fashion brand, debut on the list with a combined fortune of $1.42 billion. Launched in 2013, their label has experienced exponential growth, largely fueled by a savvy social media strategy that leverages high-profile influencers.
The brand's visibility skyrocketed after appearances by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Khloe Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski. Notably, Kim Kardashian wearing a White Fox dress triggered a massive surge in sales, cementing the influencer program as a cornerstone of their business model.
Rapid Ascent and Rankings
The Contos's financial journey has been remarkably swift. In 2024, they entered the Financial Review Young Rich List with an estimated worth of $200 million, following a staggering 100 percent year-on-year increase. By 2026, they have secured positions 128 and 129 on the main Rich List, compiled by The Australian Business Network, which features 250 individuals.
The Top Tier: Mining and Construction Magnates Lead
The upper echelons of the list remain firmly in the grasp of Australia's traditional wealth generators. The top ten collectively hold just under $210 billion, with Gina Rinehart retaining her title as Australia's richest person. Her fortune, derived from Hancock Prospecting, stands at $41.66 billion.
Meriton property developer Harry Triguboff follows in second place with $34.1 billion, while Visy packaging magnate Anthony Pratt occupies third with $30.05 billion. Mining entrepreneur Clive Palmer claims fourth spot with $22.44 billion from Mineralogy, narrowly ahead of Canva co-founders Cliff Obrecht and Melanie Perkins, who share $18.33 billion.
Notable Family Fortunes and Other High Flyers
Rinehart's four children—John Hancock, Bianca Rinehart, Ginia Rinehart, and Hope Rinehart Welker—collectively possess $3.26 billion, placing them just outside the top fifty. Meanwhile, fellow Western Australian mining figures Nicola Forrest and her ex-husband Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest rank seventh and eighth with $17.96 billion and $16.72 billion, respectively.
Media and investment veteran Kerry Stokes rounds out the top ten with $13.55 billion. Other prominent names include Atlassian co-founders Scott Farquhar ($11.87 billion) and Mike Cannon-Brookes ($11.76 billion) at 12th and 13th, Westfield's Frank Lowy ($11.42 billion), and Chemist Warehouse brothers Jack and Sam Gance ($10.19 billion combined).
Wealth Across Industries: From Media to Mining
The list reflects diverse sources of wealth. James Packer ranks 27th with $5.25 billion from Consolidated Press Holdings, while his sister Gretel holds 102nd place with $1.72 billion. News Corp chairman Lachlan Murdoch is 38th ($4.3 billion), and his half-sister Prudence McLeod is 71st ($2.41 billion).
Several lesser-known women have accrued significant wealth from Western Australian mining assets. Reclusive iron ore heiress Angela Bennett (AMB Holdings) is 21st with $6.63 billion, while VOC Group's Alexander Burt and Leonie Baldock, daughters of prospector Michael Wright, share $4.76 billion.
Retail and Hospitality Highlights
Retail figures also feature prominently. Harvey Norman's Gerry Harvey boasts $3.97 billion, Lovisa founder Brett Blundy holds $3.65 billion, and Mecca cosmetics founders Jo Horgan and Peter Wetenhall share $2.13 billion. In hospitality, Arthur Laundy and family, along with Justin Hemmes of Merivale, each have $1.85 billion, ranking 91st and 92nd.
Additional Newcomers and the List's Lower Ranks
Beyond White Fox, other new entrants include Dan and Will Roberts, co-founders of AI data centre firm IREN, with a combined worth of $972 million. Fashion designers Nicky and Simone Zimmermann follow with $853 million, while Andre and Carole Estephan, founders of the El Jannah charcoal chicken chain, are valued at $800 million (ranks 236-237).
Bing Lee owners Yenda Lee and family are worth $781 million, placing 242nd. At the very bottom of the list, in 250th position, is Bruce Buchanan, founder of e-commerce technology company Rokt, with a fortune of $750 million.
The 2026 Rich List underscores both the enduring dominance of Australia's resource and tech sectors and the rising influence of consumer brands adept at harnessing digital and celebrity marketing to build substantial wealth in a relatively short timeframe.
