Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee after being caught vaping inside the team's dressing room during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Punjab Kings.
The 24-year-old was penalised for breaching article 2.21 of the IPL's code of conduct, which pertains to behaviour that brings the game into disrepute. Television cameras captured the incident, prompting disciplinary action.
Sanction and Admission
An official statement from the IPL confirmed: "Riyan admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, Amit Sharma." The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also exploring further measures to ensure the league's reputation remains intact, including potential stringent action against the team, its officials, and players.
Parag's International Career
Parag has represented India in 10 international matches, all in white-ball formats. He currently leads the Rajasthan Royals, who sit fourth in the IPL standings and are set to face the Delhi Capitals on Friday.
