Sabastian Sawe has made marathon history by winning the London Marathon in a world record time, becoming the first person to officially record a sub-two-hour race. The Kenyan athlete clocked an astonishing time of one hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds, shaving an incredible 65 seconds off the previous record held by the late Kelvin Kiptum, which was set at the 2023 Chicago Marathon.
Historic Achievement
Sawe, who successfully defended his title from last year, crossed the finish line to the roar of the crowd, cementing his place in athletics history. His time is also 10 seconds faster than Eliud Kipchoge's 2019 record, which was not officially recognized because it was not achieved in open competition and was aided by pacemakers.
Race Details
The 2025 London Marathon saw Sawe dominate from the start, maintaining a blistering pace that left competitors struggling to keep up. His victory not only secured his second consecutive London Marathon title but also set a new benchmark for the sport.
Speaking after the race, Sawe expressed his joy and disbelief at the achievement, dedicating the win to his family and fans. The record-breaking run is expected to inspire a new generation of long-distance runners.
