Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed concern that Mohamed Salah may have played his final game for the club after the Egyptian was forced off with an injury during Saturday's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield. Salah was substituted in the 59th minute, clutching the back of his left leg, and with only four Premier League matches remaining, his season—and Liverpool career—could be over.
Salah's Injury and Substitution
Salah went down on the edge of the Palace penalty area and immediately grabbed the back of his left leg. Liverpool's medical staff rushed onto the pitch to assess the 33-year-old, and Slot decided to replace him with Jeremie Frimpong. Salah left the pitch to a warm ovation from the Anfield crowd but was seen grimacing while speaking with Slot on the sidelines.
The forward announced last month that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and the club does not yet know the full extent of his injury. Slot told Match of the Day: "Another win and another injury. It's the story of our season. It's too early to say but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch. For Mo to leave the pitch, it shows you something but we have to wait and see how bad it is."
Reaction from Pundits
Speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood said: "This could be the end of him in a Liverpool shirt. You can see him grab his left hamstring. What a sad end for him. What an ovation there will be for him."
Match Details
Liverpool were 2-0 up at the time of Salah's injury, thanks to first-half goals from Alexander Isak and Andy Robertson. Crystal Palace reduced the deficit through Daniel Munoz's controversial goal, which came while Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was down injured. Palace also hit the post through Jorgen Strand Larsen before Florian Wirtz sealed the points with a powerful finish in injury time.
The Reds have four games remaining this season, all in the Premier League, as they aim to secure a top-four finish. Saturday's win was their third consecutive league victory and moved them above Aston Villa into fourth place.
