People expecting a State Pension or benefit payment at the beginning of next month may receive the funds early owing to an approaching bank holiday. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed certain scheduled payments due on Monday, May 4 will be issued earlier, while the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is anticipated to adopt a similar adjusted payment schedule.
Why Payments Are Being Processed Early
This is due to DWP offices and telephone lines being shut over the bank holiday, with payments normally processed when all services are operational, including webchat and Jobcentre Plus offices. Payments such as State Pension, Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Child Benefits, Adult Disability Payment (ADP) and Attendance Allowance scheduled for Monday, May 4 will arrive in bank accounts on Friday, May 1.
Impact of Second May Bank Holiday
A second May bank holiday - on Monday, May 25 - will also result in scheduled payments being dispatched early on Friday, May 22. Below is a comprehensive list of DWP and HMRC payments which may be impacted by the May bank holidays. We will refresh this list once DWP has announced modifications to scheduled payments.
It is crucial to note that if your forthcoming payment does not coincide with either bank holiday date - May 4 or May 25 - it will be processed as usual.
